Our Guide to Great Engagement Photos Part 2

June 20, 2018  •  Leave a Comment

So this is the second in a two part series on conducting great engagement sessions. We've selected the right photographer, now it's on to the next steps.

Where Should You Do It?

Sometimes you just need a quiet corner indoors.Sometimes you just need a quiet corner indoors.Sometimes you just need a quiet corner indoors.

The next thing you need to decide are the locations where you would like to have your engagement photos taken. These locations are places that would either look really cool in your pictures or places that resonate with you as a couple for one reason or another. Choosing different locations that have some type of connection to your relationship you'll be able to be much more genuine in your session and you're almost guaranteed to appreciate them more in the long run. Remember you want to inject as much "youness" as you can into you session.

Good examples of places are:

  • Where you first met
  • Where you had your first date
  • Any location that you frequent as a couple
  • A really cool looking landscape or skyline that's nearby
  • A location with lots or bright and vibrant colors like a local art district
  • A location that would be the last place that you would think of getting your engagement photos taken, like an abandoned warehouse or old junkyard

We give you a two hour engagement session so you've got time to change clothing and locations. Don't be afraid to mix it up a little.

Wardrobe and Posing Ideas

Some couples like to match, others go counter programing. Yes I'm looking at all my mixed Auburn/Alabama couples out there. Personally I think it's fun to mix in what's important to you but I'd also suggest at least one look that is cohesive. You are moving into a life where you planning to face the world as a couple and nothing wrong with looking like it.

We also have some props but we encourage you to bring your own. In fact, we have a whole blog post about cool props for engagement sessions HERE.

We flattened the color here at Chandra's request, she really wanted that Auburn symbol to pop a bit.We flattened the color here at Chandra's request, she really wanted that Auburn symbol to pop a bit.We flattened the color here at Chandra's request, she really wanted that Auburn symbol to pop a bit.

So this is where we leave you, See you again next week.
